Helmet requirement for Firebird?

Hello Copperstate Members,
Has anyone in your club using or been approved by Firebird Raceway a helmet with the rating:
On back of Helmet it reads: SNELL and DOT.
Inside under the padding: Snell M2005.
I have written to both Dave and Burntire. Dave believes it meet requirements. But I have not heard from Burntire as of yet.
I found a excellent low price on a helmet with the above rating, but I do not want to purchase if I can't use it.
Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated,

"Effective 1/1/09 Snell K-98 Helmets will no longer be valid for use in drag racing. Also as a reminder the Snell 95 Helmets are also no longer valid for use in drag racing. Please check your helmet and if you have either a Snell K98 or Snell 95 you will need to replace it prior to competing in any competition at any NHRA sanctioned racetrack. The Snell K98 and Snell 95 helmets are expired and no exceptions will be made for use of this model of helmet if you are running 13.99 and quicker in the 1/4 mile or 8.59 in the 1/8th mile.

Acceptable helmets are the Snell 2000 and Snell 2005."

I am a real rookie when it comes to helmets and ratings etc. Thank you for your relpy. I am confused on the K98 and the snell 95 you talked about. The tag in the helmet reads SNELL/DOT M2005. Can you help me understand this rating a little better?

The Snell 2005 will be just fine.

Sorry for post, didn't mean to add confusion. I was just posting the entire NHRA rule governing helmets. Forgive me, I get a bit anal with tech info. I've had my fair share of run in's with the tech nazi's.

Thank you for your reply and info. One last question I hope. The tag inside of the helmet reads: SNELL/DOT M2005.
Like I said in my other e-mail, I am a definite rookie and do not know alot about track rules. The rating " M2005 ", is good and will get me through TECH? Your reply stated that SNELL 2005 will pass TECH. Is that the same for the " SNELL M2005" rating? Is there a difference between the two ratings? What does the " M" stand for?
Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make sure that I can get through TECH, especially since I am coming down from Payson.

M stands for Motorcycle as it's been designed and certified to meet the SNELL motorcycle standards. There's only a couple differences in the SNELL 2000 and 2005 specs. Helmets do not last forever because the adhesives and materials breaking down over time so to help ensure that aged equipment is not being used too much past its service life they gradually phase out the standards. For example SNELL 2000 helmets will be phased out here in the not so distant future as these helmets will be older than the 2005 standards and thus their service life is coming to an end.

And yes, like most people you will be fine if you are simply drag racing. If you were doing road racing it would likely be a different story as most will require a Autosports helmet and strictly forbid motorcycle helmets used in competition.

Can someone explain the difference between a SNELL/DOT M2005 helmet, and a
SNELL/DOT 2005 helmet? I looked at both helmets today, and I could not see any difference at all. Even the art work and colors were an exact match. But the price was not the same. The SNELL/DOT 2005 price was higher.
