Going to get Tranny and engine oil + filters and change them all today. Question what kind (brand) thinkness or what do you reccomend for these old cars.
I will also be adding a quart of lucas to the oil as well
(69 mustang. 302 v-8 origonal 80,000 mi.)
tranny i really have no idea...
filters i am going with fram.

They are no good, i've seen tests and read about their quality. I like the grip thing they have and if you get one of their higher end ones i'm sure it'll be fine but I only use Motorcraft in my Cobra. If I were you i'd go with a Mobile 1/Wix/K&N before a Fram
As far as oil for older cars i'm not sure but Mobile 1 oil is good stuff for over the counter/Auto Zone. In reality though even the WalMart shelf oil is fine for pretty much any motor. I would think 10W30 would be a good weight and as far as tranny fluid I couldn't tell you. I use GM Syncromesh in mine (it requires Dextron II ATF), yours should require something different though.Last edited by About2Bite; 08-01-08 at 11:57 AM.

K&N is my usual for my truck. but i have only done the oil once in this car. It Desperately needs to be done

Motorcraft FL1-A and if you can afford it, WANT to afford it, Castrol Syntec full syn oil. If not, Valvoline dino oil. Weight? Given the heat out here I use (when I drove it) 20W-50 in my 72 Torino. In the coldest of winter you can switch to 10W-40. I never bothered to in the Torino.

Motorcraft filters! I also run 20/50 in my Foxes 5.0 all year round and they both have over 190,000 miles on them.. Fram filters are junk imo... Castrol Oil and in our newer cars Mobil 1 all the time....

i got a K&N high performance filter and then they only carried a fram tranny filter. but i think i tightened the bolts to tight and spread the gasket because it is leaking

Ya...dont over tighten....it will leak...doesnt take much to snug those bolts
