They are no good, i've seen tests and read about their quality. I like the grip thing they have and if you get one of their higher end ones i'm sure it'll be fine but I only use Motorcraft in my Cobra. If I were you i'd go with a Mobile 1/Wix/K&N before a Fram

As far as oil for older cars i'm not sure but Mobile 1 oil is good stuff for over the counter/Auto Zone. In reality though even the WalMart shelf oil is fine for pretty much any motor. I would think 10W30 would be a good weight and as far as tranny fluid I couldn't tell you. I use GM Syncromesh in mine (it requires Dextron II ATF), yours should require something different though.

Motorcraft FL1-A and if you can afford it, WANT to afford it, Castrol Syntec full syn oil. If not, Valvoline dino oil. Weight? Given the heat out here I use (when I drove it) 20W-50 in my 72 Torino. In the coldest of winter you can switch to 10W-40. I never bothered to in the Torino.

Motorcraft FL-1 and Valvoline is what I have used for years too. I didn't realize even the Fram air filters were junk too, until the CEL come on in the Expedition. dealer traced it to the new Fram air filter I had just put in-the end came off the filter.

i had someone tell me 10w40 to use now. wouldnt 20w-50 make me run a little hot for my set up? (i think we had the same engine... my 302 is from a 72 torino/fairlane)

I don't know why you wouldn't use the FL-1A. You can get them at walmart for just over $3.00. Totally worth it. Mobil 1 is all I use. Looking at switching to Royal Purple.

No, the higher numbers in oil weight means thicker oil. You want thicker oil, esp in our old (and high? mile) engines to combat thinning with the high summer temps. As I mentioned, you can change to 10 40 in winter for better mileage and easier starting, but its not essential as I never did.
