doesn't that stuff require sanding, and clear coats, and a few other steps?

Yes, but it will turn out better and last longer than trying to put window tint on your lights.

I did my own with some black candy automotive paint, and a good quality clear coat. My 94 didn't have the large lenses like yours did, yours will probably require a little wet sanding and buffing but for$35-40 in parts and a day of your work and they will not look too bad. I have also noticed a guy on craigslist in the automotive section that was advertising that he did it I thought for around $135. The final option is that there are the 3m overlays I have seen on ebay. They don't look bad on there but I have never seen the in person to know.

I only tinted my lights a little, you can see here: http://cardomain.com/ride/2395420/5

I work at Mercedes Benz of Baton Rouge as a Service Advisor. We do not have a body shop, but we have a painter that repairs all of our bumper covers and touch up.
He is going to smoke (tint with paint) my spare taillight Monday for a trial run.

If it comes out really good I will do mine and begin taking orders. You guys will be able to ship to me your taillights, I will get them smoked, and ship them to you. I can even order new lights for you at a lower cost from FORD.

I will work a price once we do the test run.
