Hawaii is not as expensive as everyone thinks. It all depending on where you go and what you do.

Gas is the same as here now...$4.10 gal

Food at Safeway was very similar as here, maybe 10% more on some items.

We had breakfast at one place and total tab was $22 and we pigged out.

Average room rates are $150/night and up. We stayed our last night in a Best Western suite with full kitchen for $132.

Now go to the high end resorts like Princeville and you'll pay $24 for a club sandwich and $8 for a beer. But local restaurants are no different then here.

One tip is never fly Sat to Sat...it's the most expensive two days to travel. Sat to Sat from Phoenix to Kauai runs near $750. Stay an extra day and fares from Sat to Sun ran us $420ea. Big savings.

80% of the people that fly to Kauai are timeshare people and the airlines know that.
Midweek to midweek should also get you cheap fares.
Thanks Hiker for the tips! Maybe Ill plan something next year. Could be my leverage with the wife for my Mustangs Across America trip. " Honey can I go on MAA Ill take you to Hawaii"

AzSaleen04, Im being to hard, 2 of the best things I ever did in my life was get a new Mustang and marry my wife. Both offer me something good in life, one gave me a bunch of people to hang out with, and the other gave me someone to do my laundry! I hope she dont read this!

I just booked my summer cabin in Idyllwild @ vrbo.com. Vacation rental by owner is an inexpensive way to go. My next booking will either be Hawaii or Austraila :-)

If you go to Hawaii I would highly recommend the Big Island or Kauai! The Big Island is completely different than Kauai, I liked both but I think I liked the Big Island better!

I'm going to Puerto Rico Friday night where I will be for 2 day's and then going on a cruise to the Carribean for 7 day's. Looking forward to the crystal clear waters! But there is a catch! I'm getting married on Monday in St.Thomas on the beach!
If you gotta do it, that's a nice place for it. Magens Bay is killer. It's my "happy place" on a tough day. Cool little bar on the beach there too.
