    I would think that would almost make it more efficient for any car. Heat rises so the hot gasses would want to come out the top of the heads naturally instead of the bottom. Not a ton more efficient but on those cars every little bit helps.

    Plus it makes turbo placement easier.

    Isn't Honda the sole engine provider for the IRL now?

    BMW has a new V-8 coming out called the N63 that has twin turbochargers sitting in the valley of the engine. The intake manifolds are on the bottom of the heads. The engine conservatively puts out over 400 horsepower on low boost. I agree that looks like the way to go.

    255 "Indies" were the first engines used in GT40's, before Ford bought the rights from Eric Broadley. They were still considered lolas at the time. First thing Shelby did when he took control of the program was yank those out and put 289's in, rest is history...
