    Longtubes added 25HP NA!

After installing cams last year my specs went from 300/319 to 323/309. The loss of torque was a problem as the kick in the pants power didn't come in to 1/8 and beyond, and I struggled to get my quarter mile times down from 13.2 to 12.8.

A great deal on JBA longtube headers and h-pipe crossed my path, so I picked them up, expecting the usual 10/10 gains seen by most folks with a NA motor. Right after the install I took the car down to 12.67 in the quarter without much effort, but a new flat spot had appeared on the 3/4 shift, and the car just ran rougher. Time for yet another dyno tune. To the tuner's surprise, the figures went to 348/332. The car has a really smooth powerband, no surprises, and is a beast on the street if pushed too hard. My tuner had also been researching cam profiles and timing, and may have definately contributed some of those extra ponies, but damn, 25hp is 25hp.

Yeah, but now I can smell 12.4, then 12.2, then 12.00, then...only two folks got NA S197s into the 11s with stock blocks and just a cam (doesn't include the ported head folks). Would be kind of neat to get into that club this year...
