    Cobra Broke

Well I noticed some vibration and what appeared to be gear wine on the drive home last night. Took the car out to investigate again today and still noticed the noise and some vibration so I was like WTF?

I did some looking around and everything appears to be OK on the rear end. It didn't really make sense that the gears would wine after a track beating with a solid pinion shim, ARP bearing cap studs and a T/A girdle.

I was attempting to remove the drive shaft to check the pinion nut only to find that the yoke will not slide off the output shaft. I also noticed the bell housing appears to be a little lower on the passenger side.

So there may be a motor mount issue not sure yet.

I know for sure the drive shaft yoke has welded itself to the output shaft of the tranny which more than likely explains the vibration.

Well life is good I am getting all 4 wisdom teeth removed on Monday. I hope they come out easier than it will be to remove the drive shaft.

Bummer. Sorry to hear about the car and your teeth. Maybe you should have kept the IRS in until it broke?

I don't think this is a rear end issue. The drive shaft yoke is supposed to move freely on the output shaft to compensate for the suspension moving up and down. Well it is totally stuck. I even gave it a few taps with a hammer and it will not move. So I know that stuff is toast.

In did set a new best time last night of 10.75

When the tranny comes out it is not going back in. This will be the 4th time the tranny has been out of the car in 12 months. 4R70 sounds like a plan.

This may sound kinda dumb but....I had a 66 Ford Galaxy 500 and needed to take the driveline out for some reason...can't remember but when it wouldn't come out I came up with a plan. I took a comealong and chained it to the front yoke and the rear axle. After about an hour of banging and winching it still wouldn't come out. Well I said the hell with it and went in the house. Came back out later and found the driveline laying on the ground....go figure. Just a thought...lol

Found the problem. I finally got the driveshaft off the car. The output shaft is bent and the splines twisted. I am surprised it didn't break.
