Also keep in mind that you can get a killer open box deal on sets after xmas and especially after the super bowl. Full warranty and everything.

our projection tv has been great since we got it, and we bought it second hand. honestly, i thought the angle thing would be a big deal, but it turns out to not have been.

The new plasma TVs average lifetime are 7-10 years...LCDs are probably longer. Most people are replacing their TVs after that amount of time anyways...I know I do. I have never owned a TV 10 years. There are no issues with burn in as long as you are not stupid. You would have to leave a videogame or CD on pause for 24+ hours. Most TVs have a built in feature to shut the TV off after no activity. Mine does it after 3 hours if the volume or channel is not changed.
I own 2 Plasma TVs (42 and 50 inch) and have zero issues.

Have a BIG Toshiba DLP and no issues with any game play or anything. Had it for awhile now with no problems...
