The Motorcraft 5W-50 oil will provide adequate protection for your engine but the oil analysis I've seen have shown it shears down to a 40 grade oil by 2000 miles and a 30 grade by 6000 miles. I sent in a 1800 mile sample to Blackstone Labs a few days ago to see how it performed in my motor. If you use the Motorcraft oil, I wouldn't wait for Ford's recommended scheduled maintenance intervals to change it out.
If you decide to change to one of the Boutique oils (Amsoil, Redline), I suggest waiting until your car has at least 3000 miles on it; that's what Redline recommends. Just be advised that many of these oils are not API certified, although they are tested to meet/exceed API certification standards.
Personal experience combined with what I have heard/read about dealership oil changes gone wrong convinced me that doing my own oil changes is the way to go. If you must have someone else change your oil, just be aware of what type/grade and amount of oil they put in your motor, better yet buy the oil and filter and hand it to them; some dealerships just fill with what they're accustomed to doing and that's to use 5W-20. Then before leaving the dealership check the oil level - especially that it's not over-filled (best done after the motor has been off for at least 20 minutes) and that the fill cap is properly installed.
