I am putting this down on my calendar.
What is the cost involved?
My goal is to compare my time slips from SAAC 35 to time slips at Firebird.

What is required for convertibles?
I do not have a roll bar, yet, but found one online that I like and it fits my car.
It will be a few months before I begin to modify the car.
Will there be an opportunity to take a passenger for a few passes?
My reason for asking is my wife had a blast riding along at SAAC 35.
This was permitted slower than 14.00.
I get out of work at 5pm, what time are you planning on getting started?
I'll go!

14.99 with my wife in the car was our best time.
Just me I think the best I did was 14.66, yes I know that is slow and I was disappointed. Although I think my best RT was a .26 but I have to see those time slips. My wife has yet to give up the time slips from Infineon...(she really did have a blast!) so I haven't had time to look them over since we got home.
However bear in mind a few things...I hadn't been on a drag strip ever before Infineon. And I haven't drag raced this car previously even on public roads.
I did some late night racing with a '67 Cougar that I custom painted back in the day, but that was on fairly deserted back roads, and on a newly opened highway...
Infineon was just for fun, and to see how I did at the tree and what the car would do.
It is after all bone stock and still on the original BFG rubber. Logic was that since I am going to have to buy new tires soon I may as well have some fun and burn off what was left. There is still plenty left for Firebird!
I had seen a lady run a white '07 GT/CS on the TV show "Pass Time" and she supposedly had a stock one and had never run on a drag strip before. She ran a 14.00 if memory serves correctly. On a different episode a guy ran a supposedly stock red GT at 13.00. Don't know if he had raced prior to.
So I figured I should be at least at 14.00, if not better. At Infineon there was some conversation about the track not being sticky on the starting end, me being "green", having flashbacks to age 17 again and overjoyed to be at Cobra/Shelby (and GT/CS) "'heaven" probably had more to do with it than anything. And I did the water burn outs to warm the tires. Some didn't do that. They went around the water area.
Also while staged the car tended to roll forward so I had to keep my big toe on the brake so not to red light. I considered a slight tug on the handbrake, but figured that was worse. Later talking to the Pro that set it up (he ran 11.66 the second fastest time) I learned it might have been better.
Also my car is stick and it seems that an automatic would be the way to go to shave time off shifting. My goal is to have an open track car (hence the roll bar) more than a drag car so I'll keep it stick. Besides I enjoy toe and heel. On stock tires I ran 35 psi and some have said that is about right for stock tires others have said around 15 psi.
Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated as I was figuring on about mid 13 seconds was where the car should be. Obviously that would be with me doing well driving it, but I have to start somewhere. After all the those backroads were 33 years ago. I have much to learn. LOL!
Helmet is SA 2005 so I'm good there. Being that I'm not at 13.49 (yet) I should be ok without the roll bar.
I'll leave from work downtown and should get there around 6.
Looking forward to having more fun!
Thanks for asking and setting this up!
Just looks for the Mustangs when you get there. We usually park in the same area if possible.
Tech inspection is usually to the left when you leave the payment booth.

Passengers are allowed in convertibles at firebird anything slower than 14.0, but they must have an approved helmet.
I was kind of surprised when I saw that as they are tech nazis at fireturd.
