To Montezuma Castle, Jerome, Mingus Mtn and Yarnell Hill with a lunch stop in Cottonwood. Was actually almost two years to the day that I was last on this road, minus the Montezuma part. This time from the backside.
I got to Montezuma by myself first as the rest of the group was coming from a different direction. There was a miscommunication on the rally point and I was out of luck with no cell phone.
The ride out of Jerome was a stupid, almost jogging speed parade behind slow, timid traffic, but it didnt matter as there was a Jerome cop following us. I felt he was waiting for a wide spot or for us to stop so he could ticket me for "reckless", "exhibition of speed", "racing" or w/e because I revved a few times through town.
As soon as we got out of town at the top of the hill a cop in an F150 followed, then the other car caught up and the truck peeled off. After SEVERAL miles (WAY out of your jurisdiction, ehh Hoss?) he gave up? and peeled off himself.
Later we got a fairly lengthy, good run down the mountain, but again got pinched behind pickups on Yarnell Hill.
The only way to do this trip is during the week at the height of summer. FAR less traffic so you can actually put the road to the test.
As for Montezuma, well the site itself isnt such a big deal, but the setting is fabulous. Definitely adding this to my "places to regularly go". The fall colors were in effect, but we were definitley well past peak. So I want to return next year at peak. Also, want to go in the spring to see the trees greening up and the flowers and wildlife busting out.
There were two, maybe three non club members, one of which was in his newly aquired Porsche Cayman that he traded a BMW Z3 on after previously owning an 06 Vista Blue GT.
Anyway, herewith the pics:
