For us outsiders....what time does speedworld open and what time do they normally start running?

Is this just a TNT for general public and you are able to negotiate with the track for your own lanes?

Believe weak sauce Brakelate might have something by then to go faster...but i doubt it. :chair:

There are some Motels on US 60/ Grand Avenue in Sun City, that are reasonably priced, and a couple miles down from Speedworld. Just don't eat in any local Cafeterias!

WEAK SAUCE? :z7shysterical:

I'm working to make this happen, but I don't wanna commit with a vote until I can lock it down.

How crowded are these things usually? We just mention that we are with HPS, pay the gate and we are in?

I'm thinking some of the CA group can come out Sat. night, take in the local sights, bust some quick runs, then try to Zoom back to LA by sunset.

Trisha, plunk down the extra few bux and take him down the strip a couple times.

You won't have to wear a helmet or do a burnout, and you could talk one of the other members into riding along with you to show you the ropes!

It's worth it to say you've tried it once in your life, and who knows, you may just get hooked!

A good portion of the challenge is getting a good reaction time to the lights. Typically females have better reaction times and are much more consistent, especially if your boy runs an auto tranny. It's no harder on the car than hitting an on-ramp from an intersection signal.

You could hone your skills at the event, then head out on an open test and tune night and win yourself a big bracket racing trophy!

You should seriously consider it.

I understand. At the very least, go for a ride with someone on a mello pass. Out here they allow passengers, as long as you don't dip below 14 sec. You may even find someone that would take off, then shut down so as not to break the rules, but still get to experience a hard launch on sticky tires.

Todd with your car you will only need a snell 2000 or better helmet. The fire jacket is only required if you have an aftermarket supercharger. So it doesn't apply to you. You don't need a drive shaft loop.

13.99 and faster have to run a cage.

NHRA revised their rules for this year.
From the NHRA 2006 Rulebook.
Roll Bars required on convertibles running between 11.00 - 13.49 ET's.
Roll Bars required on all cars running between 11.00 - 11.99 ET's.
Roll Cages required on convertibles running 10.99 or faster than 135mph.
Roll Cages required on all cars running 10.99 or faster than 135mph. - One exception: full bodied cars running between 10.00 and 10.99, with unaltered firewalls, floor and body (from firewall rearward - wheel tubes permitted) can compete with just a roll bar.
Faster than a 9.99 you need a chassis sticker and have the car reinspected every 3 years. *Helmets are required in all classes. 14.00 seconds or slower must wear a minimum of DOT certified helmet. 13.99 and quicker must have Snell 95, K98, 2000, SFI 31.1A ,31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A helmet.
*Drive shaft loop required 13.99 and quicker and on all cars using slicks, including DOT slicks.

However Speedworld goes by IHRA Rules which is pretty much the same.

IHRA Safety Requirements: The following are minimum guidelines to use as a reference. Most of the safety requirements are in accordance with the current IHRA Rule Book. Additional familiarization with the current IHRA Rule Book will ensure each vehicle is race ready.

Elapsed Time (ET) of 13.50 seconds or slower
Snell 95 (or newer) helmet mandatory for entries running 13.99 or faster. - Recommended for entries running 14.00 or slower.
Full hood
Drive shaft loop if equipped with slicks
Battery hold-down
Radiator overflow can
Seat belts
Neutral safety switch mandatory for all vehicles with an automatic transmission. If a manual transmission vehicle was originally provided by the manufacturer with a clutch interlock switch it must remain operational.
Elapsed Time (ET) of 11.50 - 13.49
Snell 95 (or newer) helmet
Full hood
Drive shaft loop if equipped with slicks
Battery hold-down
Radiator overflow can
Seat belts
Roll Bar or Roll Cage for convertibles - recommended for all others.
Window Net (vehicles equipped with a Roll Cage only)
Transmission shield/blanket meeting SFI Specification 4.1 if the vehicle uses a modified transmission or special converter.
Neutral safety switch mandatory for all vehicles with an automatic transmission. If a manual transmission vehicle was originally provided by the manufacturer with a clutch interlock switch it must remain operational.
Reverse lockout mandatory.
Arm restraints required on open body entries. And so on, and so forth. NHRA requires, and IHRA recommends in most cases.
Hope this helps some of you.

Count me in! I guess I'll have to pick up a helmet based on these IHRA figures--don't want to spend $20 for a single run! I've never run the quarter before--on a real track that is, hehe, there's always the freeway ramps. I'm more of a road race fan than drag racing, because SCCA cars are more realistic. I was planning on attending the SCCA Solo event on Nov 11 at Firebird. Is this going on the same day?

Anyone who has an 05-07 GT should be doing high 13s with a stock 4.6 and decent reflexes, unless all the magazines are lying. It sounds like a blast with CMC members attending.

I'm eager to see what my car can do right now, basically stock. I'm sure the Hurst short-throw shifter will make a huge difference. The only other mods I've done is the after-cat Flowmasters and ram-air. I'll hold off on the CAI and tuner until the next event, for a comparison. :)

Please clarify: One of the first posts says you need a Snell 2000. Further down the NHRA and IHRA both says a Snell 95 is OK for a 11.5 or slower car. I have been running at Firebird with the 95 with only being warned that this helmet is no good NEXT year. If I don't have to get a new helmet before showing up, count me in.

You are correct your helmet is good until January 1.

If anyone is buying a new helmet for this event get a Snell 2005 and it will be good for 10 more years.

Just wanted to let you know, I plan on attending the Speedworld event. Finally got my WHIPPLE TWIN SCEW on, and Devin, and the rest of the crew at Performance Solutions, has it running great, now if I could just drive it, I'd be okay. Ran at Speedworld the other night for the first time, and clocked a 1.22 reaction time (Although not much of a reaction:mrgreen: ) had no traction in second, and ran a 13.07, at 112mph. I look to improve that, but will need a shift light soon, to stay out of the rev limiter. For those who don't know my car, it's a 2006 vista blue GT, with 4:10 gears, 5.0. short throw, Whipple supercharger, 315/30/18, on the rear, and 275/35/18 on the front, with a saleen front bumper, and steeda street wing. Everything was ordered throught On3Motorsports, and all custom dyno tuning was done at Performance Solutions, so I'll do my best not to let them down on track day. This GT is fast, and will only get faster, as I begin shedding all the dead factory weight. Look forward to running at the track again soon, so add me to the special method members list you have... My car is a daily driver, and to all those who don't know me, it's show and go, as I drive it like I stoled it...:boxing:

YESSSSS! Cant wait to see the new whipple. I am the guy that met you on the 60/Stapley exit last week witlh the the Other Vista Blue GT. If I can ever get a good launch and a good 100 shot nitrous hit at the same time we will have a heck of a race. My goal is still just to beat my best N/A time of 13.6 which I might have done last weekend had it not been for all the rain and wipeouts at Firebird 2 Fridays ago. A new GTO went into the wall and a bike laid it out as well. I think I was dialed in for some good runs but was spinning down the lane.

Nice! sounds like the blower is doing it's job. But if you can't put it down.... ... LOL BTW - I never said I was going to win...just have a good race....I have beat a Viper and a Vette who couldn't shift before,.... granted the Viper handed me my a$$ on the next run....but hey, if there wasn't a chance it wouldn't be called a race... it would be called a demonstration of getting smoked. LOL ..and yeah those x-pipes are just plain loud. I set off car alarms constantly driving by- especially in a parking garage - its like somebody hit the jackpot. woop woop woop .

If Brad from On3Motorsports shows up, we'll have plenty. I'm actually cutting weight for a natural bodybuilding show in March.

http://www.npcmilesproductions.com/upcoming_events.html

I just got off my bulking cycle (eating, shitting, eating, weights, eating, shitting some more, more weights and eating). I'm the biggest (and fattest...... hey it comes with the territory when you're not on the sauce) I've ever been but I will get down to 3% body fat by march 10th.

well, i will most certainly be going, but looking like i will just go as a spectator. i was going to try and get the car on the track this friday, but my work is havin' a dinner, and i really want to attend. so since sunday would be the first time for my cobra to hit the track, i am gonna just go to watch. i would run the 98 gt, but everyone knows what a 14.5 second gt looks like. so since i have not been able to track the cobra i am just gonna play it safe. as i do not wanna do half throttle runs with everyone out there. i would rather do the shake down runs on a regular friday night.

btw- little insight, i have never ran a car faster than 14 seconds, so this is a big learning curve, and i want to get use to the car at my pace. and not look like a fool infront of a large group of my pears.

Usually the 20 bucks covers as many passes as you can make(at least on a test and tune night) I usually average about 5-7 runs in a night, i try not to hot lap to much..

You do. If you run faster than a 14.00 then you will need one. If you drive a soft top convertible you will need one. My first time down at Speedworld they let me run cause it was my first time but told me next time to bring a helmet so I have one that stays in my trunk.

I think it is a good idea to have one anyway.

It depends if they notice it I guess.

Well, looks like myself and my son wont be attending, although we would love to.

I bought a painless kit to rewire my mustang and put a switch box control on the roll bar overhead. After looking at the instructions and the 20ft of colored, labeled wire, i realize that this wont be a weekend project.

My son, Paul, got his 90 mustang running, but has quite a few wiring problems also, as well as putting the dash back in.

Anyway, have a blast! :hi:

I doubt they will not let you run due to a cracked windshield. Espescially if its just the passenger side. Speedworld is usually pretty cool about stuff like that.

I will be there. I won't be able to run though. My truck is still down.

Damm that stinks.
I have a spare set of bald BFG drag radials on stock 04 rims here. No good for the street, but good for a day at the track. I don't know if you have a wheel you can get to the track on. If you do let me know. I am leaving a little before 8 AM and can throw the wheels in the truck.

wow. what an incredible day. too much fun. thanks to all who organized it, and ran it, big thanks to copperstate for providing the eats, performance solutions for bringing out the race trailer, and especially a big thanks to jeff (mr. admin guy) for putting the whole thing on. and also big props to speedworld for having an excellently prepped track. i am beyond glad that my torque boxes got fixed, and i manned up and ran the cobra. granted i was not living up to what my car can run, but i am more than happy with my 12.99 at 108 on the first day out. what a fun day! thanks to all that atteneded, you sure made it one memorable day.

btw- cannot extend a big enough thanks to dan, devin, shane and ernie at performance solutions for fixing my car up properly, and makin her track straighter than an arrow! now if i can figure out how to run it and not miss shifts and get good 60' times. :bounce:

yea, the track cleanup time was kinda hurting, but atleast they cleaned it good, and there was no issues with debris...
