Well I'll be going to California with one of my buddies for a couple days :bouncy::pepper::woot2:
Taking a much needed, short term, vacation. I'll be in San Diego for a little and from there I'll travel to LA and check out that area. I'll be in LA for the most part but don't know what to see or where to go out there.

I will be staying at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach.

Anyone know of some places to check out? Things to do?

Thanks :pinkthumb:

Josh

In LA I enjoy Peterson Auto Museum(across from LaBrea Tar Pits), Venice Beach, Queen Mary & Russian Sub, Mulholland Drive and Universal Studios.

San Diego: Midaway Aircraft Carrier, and the beaches

Have Fun!

Another vote for the Peterson Museum! You could spend half a day there. Check out Balboa Park in San Diego too. They have a great Avation Museum, and Auto Museum, within easy wallking distance of each other.

I just got back from SD yesterday after spending New Years there. Great place to hang out, lot's to do.

Check out the downtown area. Gas Lamp is a great place to party and great restaurants.

Little Italy rocks. Zagarella (http://www.zagarellaitalianrestaurant.com/)has some of the best Italian food around.

The Fish Market next to the Midway has a cool outdoor patio to hang out and slam appetizers and beer all night.

The Holiday Inn across the street from the Star of India has great govt/state emp discounts.

If it's a clear day, head out to Point Loma and check out the views and tide pools.

Pacific Beach has a cool place to walk around and shop

Just one block south of Little Italy on Kettner there's tons of cool antigue shops with some neat garage art stuff.

Take the ferry over to Coronado Isle and walk across to the Del. The homes along the walk are amazing for there price. Also, killer burgers at the Del.

I've stayed there! The Holiday Inn is nice enough to stay at, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a rental Car. The spaces in thier parking garage are 2" narrower than those at the pavillions, and they charge an outragous price ( Gee. what was I thinking, it is California!). They were not to happy with me for taking up two spaces (On the roof!), I checked out a day early. Lots to see within walkling distance though.

One place I want to try is the Indio Cafe, right downtown off I-5. It has been on the cable TV show Dinners, Dives and Deli's. They are suppose to have great food at a reasonable price.

We've never had any problems with the parking. We've styed there at least 8 times.

It is better to park on the roo but for $140 a night, $20 extra for parking is worth it.

And a bay side room IS a must.

The tower right above the registration office has all been remodeled and they did a nice job with the rooms.
