We had an awesome day yesterday at the new Palm Beach International Raceway which used to be Moroso. We headed out to the Mustang Challenge with our car and a bunch of friends for a fun evening of drag racing.
This was the first time that our alternate driver and 3X WFC champ UPR's Jeremy Martorella had been in our car since the Whipple was installed. He wasn't quite sure what to expect but with the car still warm from the 40 minute drive he drove it to a 10.85@129mph. As the day went on he had some more adjusting to get used to but as the Challenge event started we were on our way up the ladder. We made it to the finals where we raced Pat Tucci, last years Mustang Challenger points leader and winner. We ended up taking 2nd place and ending the night with a 10.75@132.49. This was done with the 3.4L Whipple, 3.50" upper pulley, stock tranny, stock clutch, stock longblock and some 18" drag radials on stock rims.
We were definitely happy with the results. We're going to be making some adjustments to the rear suspension and replacing any poly with spherical bushing as well as installing a HPP Unirev 2 step. In addition to that we're going to throw a set of slicks on her for the next track outing to see what we can do with a real drag tire on the back.
Not only did we have an awesome night some of our other friends drove their cars to their personal best's. Dennis Rowe who's Silver 03 Cobra featured in our 2009 Calendar ran his best of 10.592@135.93. Ronnie Sanchez another good friend and founder of the Mustang Challenge also ran his best time ever in his 03 Cobra which was a 10.34@136mph. His car as a 302 stroker with a 2.3L Whipple at 21lbs. Stock IRS, Stock Tranny with the stock 10 spline input shaft!! LOL
As you can see it was a great night of racing for everyone.
I want to thank Ronnie for putting the Challenge together, Jeremy Martorella and Mark M. from UPR Products for all of their continued support of Lethal Performance.
Thanks to everyone else who came out to race.
