View Full Version : Need Opinions on a Brake noise

Ok so I was getting a squeaky brake noise from the right front so I decided to change the pads and rotors on my Cobra. I ordered the factory replacement Brembo rotors (the italian ones, not the cheapo's), and the good replacement pads. After taking a short test drive and lightly braking, I get sort of a clunking sound in rhythm with the turning of the right front wheel. After another inspection the pads look fine and the rotor looks fine and true. When driving and not applying the brakes, I can hear the pads intermittently touching the rotors- again in rhythm with the front wheel rotation. The pedal doesn't pulsate. I immediatley parked the car as I don't want to ruin the new pads and rotors, but I thought I'd see what you guys think the problem may be. Any ideas?

I guess a trip to PSR will be forthcoming for them to check it out.

Hard to tell without hearing it. Mine make some noises at times. Along with the coilovers. LOL

Could be normal or possibly a sloppy wheel bearing.

You sure you installed the anti-rattle clips correctly?

The anti rattle clips came on the pads. Only question I have is these rotate a bit- I wonder if they're in the wrong spot.

It all seemed pretty self explanitory and easy....not sure why there's a problem. I never did think of the wheel bearings....

Its an exhaust leak....

But seriously, I would have no idea

They rotate around a bit? The set my buddy and I just did within the last month didn't move a bit. They were a nice snug fit. Odd.

Go back and check your work...

x2 , and use the brake lubricant on the moving/sliding parts of the caliper / backside of brake pads etc..

Ok, I've checked my work twice. I went and picked up some caliper lube and lubed the caliper pin. The pads fit snug, and the clips fit snug as well. When I place the caliper back on the rotor the wheel spins freely and the pads don't contact the rotor- all is good. Once I start the car and apply pressure to the brake pedal, the caliper doesn't relax all the way, and it drags on the rotor. What would cause the caliper not to completely release it's grip? The car drives great, doesn't pull etc. Ugh it's frustrating because the noise is annoying!

Sell the car, lol. I would give PSR a call and see what they say. Or even bring it by

Yup, that's the next step. I need an oil change anyway.

Did you lube the guide pins and check for signs of wear?

I actually replaced the pins and lubed them.

Between you and Jeff I'm not sure which one is funnier! :laughing1:
If it's an exhaust leak like I had before, I will need someone to find a deep crack in the earth, one that I could push this car off of.

I think I may just have PSR look at it. I'm sure they'll tell me I need a new caliper- i dunno. Maybe I need to bleed the brakes. Brakes can't get much easier than these- which is what is a bit frustrating. I might as well have them throw on the pulley's while I'm at it.
