1,000 Feet Racing: You Better Get Used To It

I went to several events last year and and I can't tell you that shutting them down 320 feet sooner made the experience any less enjoyable.

As far as the racing goes, other than the major pedal fests, the only times the leader at 1000 ft wasn't ahead at the 1320 stripe were when the big money teams had to drive around one of the little guys cause he/she got beat at the tree.

Wally Parks had a great thing with the 1320 but they didn't have the money and technology that these teams have today. You can keep making the cars safer but the teams will still make more power and thus, the cars faster. At some point enough is enough. You can't lose a driver a season.

His last sentence sums it up:

"Then again, I would much rather say goodbye to the 1/4 mile stripe than have to eulogize another dead drag racer."

If the NHRA thinks the best course of action is to keep the 1000 ft races for the pro classes I fully support them.

I prefer the 1/4 mile. They need to place more restrictions on the cars to slow them down and make the tracks longer.
