Me and Phx99cobra have agreed to switch rear ends, My SRA for his IRS. We will be doing it this weekend and hopefully it will only be a 1 day thing but thats if everything goes right. I will be taking pictures and posting up when all is said and done.
Oh, and if there are any generous shops out there that would be willing to lend us a lift that would be much appreciated!:hyper:
I am going IRS because ever since riding in an 03 cobra I cant help but love the way they handle. Since I wont be doign any major drag racing with my car I figured I might as well have it handle good for a DD. Updates to come.

A tranny jack really helps. It is not that bad of a swap.
Just did it today in 6 hours. Both cars

The GT and Cobra Calipers are the same. Just the Rotors and brake brackets are different. IRS cables worked fine when I went to the solid.
The ABS sensors mounts are in different locations also.

Ah I see, well thats good to hear that its not too bad of a swap. and It would be kick ass if we could get it done in 6 hours like gene did. Any tips from people that have done it would be greatly appreciated. :highfive:
Here are some that you need to know. Keep your calipers and pads on each car, do not swap. Take off the exhaust hangers on the gt along with the catback (this includes the 4 retainer clips that the screws sink into. Take off the pinion snubber on the gt. Remove the pinion flange on the cobra and swap it onto the gt (vis versa). The ebrake, obviously have it off, pull the e clips off, pull the head with a set if channel locks or visgrips, if your strong enough, get another set of channel locks and take off the tension on the spring and slide the cable out. It's tricky, I did it by myself, but I'm sure another set of hands would have made it quicker for me. Rent a 3 jaw puller and a brake caliper kit (the rear piston is a screw in, not a press it) from auto zone. The puller will make life easier getting the pinion flanges off. good luck, Gene

You have to switch pinion flanges?
Can you just swap drive shaft?

Does the 99 cobra have the same tranny yoke as his GT?
The 03/04 has a different yoke due to the T-56.
The IRS has a larger pinion flange.

Disconnecting the e-brake cable was a bitch.

Disconnecting the e-brake cable was a bitch. WTF. I don't get what your talking about. I pulled the clip then a pair of pliers to remove the cable from the caliper.

The first one's a bit tricky. I had to depress the spring mechanism, then pull the cable on mine. Every car is different though.

I had to do the same, just didn't figure that out until a good 30 minutes of trying to pull it over the hook.

Mine just pulls straight out. I have the easy one due to the amount of times I have to remove the rear end.:biglaugh:

So do I only remove the e brake from the caliper?
Do I need to swap the whole lines?

The lines and calipers stay on the repective car. GT and Cobra calipers are the same.

I think the pinion flanges are different from another post i read. Have to do a little more research. Gene we will be in your area if you arent working that shift, we would love if you dropped by.

Pinion flange is different, yes both cars have t45's that is correct however the pinion flange is in the back of the car. So you'll have to swap driveshafts also

Definitley happy with the IRS. I can turn on a dime now without the ass end kicking out I love it! Still getting used to this thing called "wheel hop" lol its a new concept for me, but its alright. Huge thanks to 93mustank, Andy, Andrew, Andy's friend (forgot his name) and bud light! Only thing I dont like is when we swapped springs (I now have cut Eibach pro kit springs in the rear) it looks like the car is accelerating really hard when its just sitting there due to still having stock front springs.
Up next: Cut the front springs
