The lack of an over run area and the cement divider at the end of the track is not a good thing when a car can not stop.

Why does that track not have a sand trap with a net at the end? And why a cement wall?

oh my god. wow that is just insane. i couldnt tell, did the car blow up before it hit the wall or rite before the wall?

The drivers have been asking for a better overrun area at Englishtown for YEARS. Unfortunately it had to take the life of a 2 time champion for them to listen.

RIP Scott

HOLY S$^&$t!! thats just insane. how friggen horrible. it looks like no sand trap at all!! how was a track aloud to operate like that? and now we are missing a champion of our sport. i certainly hope something is done about that. this is just such a sad event...

I was thinking the same thing, where are they suposed to go?????? I guess this will change things over there... Sad that we have to lose another great guy to prove the point..

from what i understand there is a street about 20ft behind where that wall is. and the wall is to prevent cars from going onto the street. just sounds like a horrible idea especially in light of this event, but thats what i have read...

In that case, there should be on overpass for that street or something. Surely the NHRA will have that track make improvements.

oh trust me, i can't understand why they would let it remain that way to begin with. that just seems like a heck of an oversight on thier part...

Well John Force is a crusader for car safety now after Eric Medlin was killed. Hopefully there will be a crusader for track safety now and maybe the drivers and team owners will boycott tracks like this.

Speaking as someone that's run at Englishtown: This is one of the oldest on the circuit. There are numerous houses built around the facility. The street that you turn off of to enter the facility is just beyond that wall. There is a sand trap and catch net, before the wall. It is a short runoff. If you look just before his car impacts the sand, there is a net stretched across the track. Most tracks have a setup like that.

yeah...as seen in the video though, that net didn't help much..... i understand that at the speed he was traveling, not much coulda helped, but that run off just seems so short..... imust admit i am surprised its not been an issue before...

This is one of the oldest tracks that the pros run on. I wouldn't be surprised that they do something about it, if there's anything to do. I can remember back to when I would be taken to see the pros run at Bakersfield. For one reason or another, they no longer race there. But, that was like 20+ years ago.
