View Full Version : Need Some Help Deciding on a 69 Mustang
I've been looking for a 69-70 Stang for some time. Im currently looking at a 69 Mustang Grande. I had one of these back in the old days
Anyway, obviously I don't want to get stuck with a car that I someday cant get rid of if needed be. I've read a few of my Mustang books and very little is mentioned about the Grande, although it is the first year for this production. It was considered the Luxury version and came with a 302 2v.
Am I totally wasting my money on something like this? I mean, I dont plan on keeping it in the state that its in, and some money will be dumped into it.
Why is this car seem to get zero respect when they only made a little over 22k of these in 69?
Come on guys need your advise here, I'm dieing to pick up a 69-70 that doesn't break the bank, this is a good priced one.

i have a meadowlark yellow mustang grande. i have been told different things about em' they are luxury but not. they are a mustang coupe with all of the mach 1 options for example the 9" rear end. i have only seen two other grande's from 69 and then this one on craigslist. they really are great mustangs still
Do you know why these get such a bad rap? I mean there is very little information about them other than Wood grain inserts and a clock and better insulation, but thats about it.
I had a 1970 Mustang Grande with a 351 Cleveland (NOM) in it and loved it.

Pro's:
-pretty rare car espacially in that kind of condition
-me and you can be the grande brothers on cruises (sounds dirty)
-The grande is deffinatly a conversation starter because alot of people dont understand the significance of them due to the rarity
-you can be one more person who explains that the grande is not longer but better as a coupe
-came with more features
-parts are the same off of a 68 coupe (seriously)
Cons:
-hell i cant think of any its a mustang
ill get back to you on that one or someone else can for me

Im looking at this as a potential Boss 302 Clone.
WRONG body style, the Boss is a fastback, better to leave it a Grande, if you want to build a clone Boss, find a 69 Sportsroof

I think there are better deals out there especially like Kev says if you are looking for a boss clone. But have owned and built two hipo mavericks. Not very popular cars...but I loved them! If you like that year, that style...who cares what others think. Get what you want.

so question then.
do people like the grande's why or why not?
Hey I'm all ears. I got about 6500-7500 Id spend to get a decent builder. However Ive really been looking and don't see much out there now a days. Especially in Arizona. Ebay is just not an option to much junk for sale on ebay.
Anyone trying to sell a Boss or a Mach 1 69-70 please let me know. I do know finding one of these in my price range is probably not going to happen.
For me its the restoration I like, I could buy one finished but that takes away from the fun.
I liked this Grande because it has been in the same family since new and always in Arizona. The guys in Utah until Sunday, so Ill be going to look at it when he comes back into town. Has another guy interested in the car but he wants to make payments. He seems pretty firm on his price to, cant blame him really.
I just want an old Mustang. I had a 1970 Grande and have hated that I sold it forever. Don't get me wrong, I love my 07, but its just not the same.

Okay, I like you had a 71 Grande, but I also had a 71 Mach, I like the Mach sooooo much better, back then and now. But for what you say about that car, sounds like it would fit your bill or bills  , so I say go check it out and if it's everything you want it to be, then buy it.
You don't see alot of Grande's at the shows, except for 69creampuffster.:biglaugh:
But on the other hand you know that deep down you want the Boss or the Mach, and the minute you buy this, the deal of a lifetime will come along on one. Hate it when that happens.

I should have finished, it happened today to me, I had to sadly walk away from a badass 68 Coupe today, he wanted $10k.

NO DOUBT! Im going to look at this one, but Im not jumping up and down inside wanting it so it wont be hard to walk away. Id really rather have a 351 instead of a 302.

Sportsroof (esp. Mach I) is a more popular car and easier to resell.
Now that you have a new 'Stang, the old one won't hold a candle to the new one.
I miss my '69 Mach I and I think it's the best body style of all the 'Stangs. But now I'm hooked on 'verts.

The Grande's are nice, nothing wrong with them, but most people prefer the sportsroof models. The Grande's just don't have that muscle car look IMO.
Chris I'm dieing for a fastback!! I'm going to look at this Grande on Sunday, but I'm only buying if I can get him down. My ultimate thing now is to start saving for a Mach1. Figuring I'm going to be in the 25-35k range. If the housing market wasn't in the crapper right now Id have the money to buy what I want.

my suggestion is this. if you want something you are able to liquidate if need be.... get a fastback. original fast backs are expensive compared to a grande...unless you find a smokin deal. thats when patcience kicks in. ha ha! the thing is that most EVERYONE love a fast back. if its original you can get more money out of the sale of this. if its a ridiculous dyna-corny thing, you can still get some money out of it but you are compromising the the historic value that you would have out of an original one.
when it comes down to it, its what you find intesting and want to toy around with. its whole purpose is to make you happy!
