i can break my axle too!! :woot1:

well, after moving the cobra out of the garage today to help jen take out her transmission, i go to move the cobra on the street, and i find a spot of oil. curious to what it is, i do the smell test, and to my surprise, its gear oil. all i could think is, how the hell could that be more on the left side and not in the middle where the diff cover is...well...i will let the pics speak for themselves....

someone will be making a trip to PSR here soon...:hi:

OUCH! Sorry to see that Tony. What's the plan, sticking with the 8.8 solid rear or are you going to go the way of the 9?

thinkin a little welding action might be able to fix this one. not sure till i limp it to the shop and shane and devin take a peak at it...

IMSHAKN

As long as everything is straight and in good working order, I don't see why some welding and then maybe bracing the axles would be sufficient.

AZSonicSnake
03-19-08, 01:25 AM
thats what i am hoping for! otherwise there will be some down time. because fundage is sorta low right now.

BurnTire

Welcome to carnage world. LOL
May be fixable, but that is strange that it cracked at the control arm mount.

IMSHAKN
03-19-08, 01:32 AM
Amen to the fundage. These cars seem to have a great ability to leave you with a big grin on your face while leaving your wallet dry :sadwavey:

funny...indy said the same thing..lol. it does not look to have pulled away too far, which may play in my favor. i did not notice anything different on the drive home last weekend, but from looking at the mess on the gas tank, i drove across town like that. so i am gonna put a quart in it and limp it to the shop and hopefully it can just be welded and braced up a little. remember how i was thinkin something was not happy on my car, well, guess i found it. lol...

Old bent tire probably looked at your car funny causing that weld to break.

thanks dave! its only cracked. no bends! lol...i would have never noticed it otherwise untill i saw the puddle. it did not even leave one in the garage...and saturday was the last time i drove it till it was moved out, and there was nothing in there. weirdness...

That sucks Tony, hopefully they can just weld it up and you'll be back on the road.

Jeff, that still doesn't mean that you can't find a way to break it.

Hmmm.... Our shop car is in the mid 9's with an 8.8, 31 spline axles, a tru trac, hpm arms, and an antiroll. It's had no issues what so ever cutting low 1.3 60' at 3500 lbs. But also, ur running a turbo. they come on a lil different than a supercharged car. it's all on how u set up the rear end and what kinda transmission ur running. every1 knows that a stick car with a spec 5 clutch *cough*cough*jeff* will lead to breaking something since they hit the tires so hard. but u def won't break anything on that 9". it's one less thing to worry about if u have the extra fundage. :laughing1:

there are lots of cars runnin low times on the 8.8 but apparently here there are some guys having difficulties with the 8.8s. i figured i may as well build it right the first time and hopefully save the headaches.

There is nothing wrong with that. As long as you have the $$$ its a nice upgrade. Im running an 8.8, just didnt want to spend the money, looks nice though. Are you going to change the girdle cover?

That isn't a cover it is part of the housing and is not removable like an 8.8. Everything enters the rear from the front side via the 3rd member.

28x10.5 with no problems
29s should fit with the proper offset..........Ws prolly would fit with rolling the fender.

i wass thinking about doing a 10.5, one of my buddies got an 11.5 to fit but said he had to massage the ineer wheel well, which to me means slamming it with a hammer which i do not want to do.

i think i can live with the 10.5's for now, can you roll the inner edge, i always that that was for the outside edge.

don't know if that would help if it is impacted on the inner side. unless you put a spacer in to ad sapce on the inside
