YO Club member Matt Jaynes is this month's lucky winner. His '65 fastback is his first car and was purchased by his parents when he turned 16. The fastback was a little rough around the edges, and Matt's parents made sure it was road-ready and safe before handing him the keys. Garage-kept for 15 years by the previous owner, the Mustang required a new radiator, carburetor, distributor, tune-up, hoses, and belts. "It seems like every time I drive it, someone asks me about selling it," Matt says.
Matt recently graduated from Caledonia High School (Class of 2007) in Caledonia, Mississippi, and is currently working on getting his 289 and transmission completely rebuilt. He has plans for a few aftermarket goodies during the rebuild, including a Weiand X-Celerator intake,10:1 flat-top compression pistons, a Holley 600 Double-Pumper carburetor, a mild cam, Hooker Headers, and a complete rebuild of the factory power steering.
"I read Mustang & Fords and Mustang Monthly every month," Matt says, "and I've wanted a '65-'66 Mustang fastback ever since I saw the YearOne Boss Hoss '66 . When I first saw the YO Club in the magazine, I told my dad it would be awesome to win that. He said to give it a try and see what happens. When I first read the winner's notification e-mail, I couldn't believe it. I had to read it several times to make sure it was real. It's an honor to have my car featured in Mustang & Fords' and Mustang Monthly's YO Club.
