Linking photos will still stay full size. This is just if you use the attach function.

I'll be sure to use the attach feature from now on. Posting the images straight in a thread can really screw up the way the page appears.

The problem occurs when you post an image that is huge into the forms from and external host. They break the style. If the image is 800x600 max there usually isn't a problem on most monitors unless you run a low resolution.
I am working on a mod that will resize externally linked images.
You can also do this

This will ensure the image is always here. I hate red x's that show up when the external image is deleted.

There is also a way to create albums in your profile. Click usercp the Pictures and Albums. These images can also be linked to a post.

Example of huge image breaking style. Unless you have a huge monitor. I run a Dual 19" setup.

Like in the first post.
The other thing to keep in mind is when editing a photo to post online, setting the dpi to 72 vs. 300 or 360 will dramatically cut the reduce the size of the photo. Most image editing programs should allow you to either "save for the web" or manually set your dpi.
You won't be able to tell the difference (72dpi vs 300dpi) when viewing photo's on monitor.

Yes most people that link images from an external source do not worry about downsizing. I see large images that break the style with my 1280 X 1024 setup.
When images are attached directly to the post with the attach button, linked from the photo gallery or profile gallery they will never be larger than 800 x 800 because the software resizes them on upload.
