I'm hoping to have PSR build my rear end sometime within the next couple of months and am tossing around the idea of throwing on some 17x9's in the front and 17x10.5's in the rear to help keep some traction with the 4.10's I am going to put in the car. I need to get new tires anyways since my current ones are getting very worn and are really dried out so I thought what a perfect time it would be to splurge on some FR500 replicas. So what would be a good tire to throw on these things given that I plan to hit Firebird up once or twice a month? In the front all I want lifespan out of the tires are about 20k miles, if they last longer, great. In the rear, I want about 10k miles out of them or better. I'm looking for tires that won't break the bank and take away from my rear end build so anything over $200 a tire is out of question. Any suggestions?

I've had a few suggestions to try those. Any idea who stocks them the cheapest?

i heard from some people though that the nittos are like ice skates at tracks?
I think the price is close to 200 a tire, not entirely sure but I would check the BFG KDW's

the nitto is definetly a good street tire. not the greatest at the track, but will make you happy on the street.

Right now I'm looking for something that will be great on the street and hopefully a decent improvement over typical street tires at the strip. Eventually I will get something to throw on the rears for the track, but I'll probably save that until next winter. I've got to get rid of these Bridgestone Potenza's on my car because they are all old, the fronts have maybe another 1000 miles of useful service life, and they look really dry given the cracks seen in the treads. Looks like I'm going to be giving PSR a call really soon :woot1:

Anybody else having problems with the 555R's? Dude i don't know if i have horrible luck or what but I just walked outside to go home from work and saw I have another flat! That makes 6 in the last month and a half. I do run the car hard but this is just getting stupid! I love the tire...just not when it has to be replaced on an almost weekly basis. bout ready to shoot myself if it happens again!

No problems with the 555's here except they suck at the track. Given that I broke my IRS on the street IO can say they hook up on the street.

As for your flat.....stop running over nails LOL :bash:

I've had problems with my Nitto DR's going flat. Like everyone said, great street tire but not so good on the strip. I'm gonna try the BFG's next.

My BFG's wore out about 4 times faster than the Nitto's.

Nittos will get you the mileage your after, and they will hook better at the track then a normal street tire. But the BFGs and MT DRs stick way better, problem is they only last 5-10k max normally.

I can also tell you that you have to cook the sheit out of the Nittos in the wet box if ya want them to stick better at the track. They do make a good strip/street tire if you are looking to get +10k mile out of them, I have about 10k on mine now and they will last atleast another 5-10k.

BTW- I haven't had any issues with my Nittos leaking air either................

10K LOL.

I got 700 out of the BFG's and about 1500 on the Nitto's now and they have about 25% left. I guess I have some kind of problem.

Seems to be the story I hear from most people who have experimented with them for a while. I think the Nitto's are the better choice for a DD from friends experiences and from what I've seen here on the Forums. Definitely will be glad to get those mounted up this week courtesy of PSR :woot1:

MT's 315/35/17's I've had both nitto and bfg's. The MT's hook way better and are lasting longer than the BFG's. A lot longer.

sounds like you want your cake and to eat it to. You'll get 10k out of nitto drag radials no problem but as far as hooking good well thats a joke. My car doesnt hook bad on nittos but doesnt hook as well as it would with a good tire. I've gotten a 1.88 out of my nittos but know a 1.7 is there with an et street drag radial. If you are dead set on nittos check discount tires ebay store. I got my 275/40/17's for under 150 a tire shipped (285 for both shipped). I have just over 5k on my nitto's and havent had a flat or anything. That being said i will never run them again. No need for a 10 to 15 sec burnout just to get the tires to hook somewhat. I cant stall my car up much at all before i blow them off (1500 is the max i've hooked at)

I'm simply looking for something to hook up a fair amount better than these street tires I'm running right now.

When I was checking out Nitto's site, I noticed a warning on the 555r's and sub 32 degree temeratures. Is there really a big problem because my mach is a DD and it does get parked outside. I know it's not below freezing here much in Phoenix, but it will see those temps.

I would use the 275 40 17 in a close to stock car to cut down on the rolling drag coefficient.
