Spent most of the day at BJ today. Saw a couple actors and a few ball players. Wow....$30 to get in..at least parking was free. The Ford display was nice..lots of Shelbys and a GT(40). The vendors tent was huge and way over priced. 1/18th diecast was double there then anywhere else. Lots of cool garage art, neon art, and you name it. Got to see the track layout for the Champ Car race this Dec in Phx. Looks like they're running through our old warehouse district instead of downtown....kind of different from when F1 was here.
What really surprised me was the open access to the bidding tent. I was able to get right up to the entrance where they drive the cars up onto the stage, and you could walk just about everywhere except in the middle front area. One security guy said it won't be like this for Sat/Sun. Access will be more limited for general admin people. I was absolutely blown away at the size of the tent. It could easily hold two football fields. When you see it from the street it does not look that big until you're in it....wow.
The outside car coral tent areas were really dusty from the wind. Some cars were just covered, it was so sad. I took over 200 pics, will post separately as soon as I crop and resize. They also had a tent just for cars for sale, no auction. There were about 5 Mustangs in there, all seemed high, but it is BJ.
I also heard they changed bidder/seller percentages this year. Sellers now pay 5% commission and buyers pay 10% plus 8% sales tax.
One buyer I talked to that just bought a nice silver/grey 68' Roadrunner for $27,500 had to pay $32,450 OTD. I thought $32.5K was pretty good for that car. It was exceptionally clean. It's only downfall was it was an auto on the tree.
Dynacorns display was pretty cool, they had pics of there upcoming 67' Stang. No date yet when it's coming out.
I made a list of some Stangs along with there pics, i'm curious at what they sold for.
It was blown away at all the Chevys. By far the most popular brand. At least half the cars there were Chevys.. Lots of nice Shelbys inside. My camera was acting up on my indoor pics, so not all came out great....
The auction sure has changed from years ago when you used to really see alot of exotics there. Years ago you would rarely see a car under $25K.
Today I saw a 76 Mustang. I think it was a 76. It was from the Pintang era. You would never see a car like that years ago there.
One thing they had that was kinda.......boring... was a drifting display by Ford. Sorry if I just don't get it....maybe it's for the kids. I saw so many adults walk off after the first 2 minutes of the show. They had an area about half the size of a football field surrounded by concrete barriers and three Mustangs racing(drifting) around it. Funny that the three driver were Asian. I guess no Americans are good enough yet to work the circuit. They burnt more rubber. Funniest thing was the direction of the wind took all the tire smoke over the outdoor vendors area and it choked out everyone for about 10 minutes. It was like someone drop a smoke bomb in the area.
By 5pm it was starting to fill in with the evening crowd and that's when I headed out.
They did have a NASCAR there....the old #4 Kodak car driven once by Sterling Marlin. I wonder what that sold for?
Overall...it was a pretty cool day. If you're watching any of Rick Debruls(sp) little clips. If you see him do one on Shelbys or new Mustangs and it's indoors...I'm in the backround....look for the guy with the air force pilot jacket on...lol
