unless your all about drag racing keep the IRS. its one of the best features of the 03-04 cobra. and also note, if you do swap, you will need to swap exhaust aswell. i say dont do it!
Alex, I never got any good info btw.
Sorry bud, I will keep trying!

Thanks guys, I have actually done this swap before on my GT with a friends 99 Cobra, not too difficult of a swap in reality, though I like the IRS, I dont like worrying about destroying the axles/halfshafts.. it would be more of a piece of mind if anything. Plus I plan to take my car to the track more frequently once I get a few mods on the car. Thanks Chris I got the info I needed! Thanks for trying though!!

Besides, Burntire did a solid axle swap and we all know the benefits he gained from that, plus I look up to him he's my idol :icon_razz:

The day I swapped in a solid and shitcanned the IRS in my Terminator was one of the happiest days in my hotrodding life.

Funny the Cobra guys would kill for a SA and all the GT guys want IRS. Too bad we can't have both. :bounce:

Yeah I actually liked going IRS in my old 2000 Mustang Gt, but yeah now I want a solid axle, hopefully we can get this thing going and have 2 satisfied stang owners!
Let me know if you find anyone with a 99-04 sold axle.. I am in need of one myself.. you wouldn't be interested in a 99-04 solid with Strange 33 spline axles, welded axle tubes, 4.56 gears and Strange full spool would you? its a drag rear end for sure..lol

Here's a complete rear for $250. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/pts/2860468344.html
When I did mine DTS (in Detroit) built me a complete unit with FRPP 3.73s and diff cover, Eaton diff, and Strange axles shipped to my door for a little less than 2 grand if I remember correctly.
I believe the 99-04 rears have their one size.. the -98 ones are narrower flange to flange

98 and earlier are 3/4" shorter per side for a total of 1.5 compared to the 99+. The IRS is about 1" narrower than a 99 solid axle.

Forgot about the width difference. Now that I think about it don't some people run the 94-98 axle intentionally to fit more tire under the car???
Mine was 99+ width but with GT brake brackets so I could run 15 inch wheels.

Sad but true. If I could only have ONE mod on a Terminator it would be between a pulley/tune or a solid and I'd go with the solid without a doubt.

:goodidea: Agreed. Ill have a solid soon enough, and Ive been looking at Turbo kits more and more lately too, that will be a final mod that I will do in the distant future

Well since I already have the pulley and tune and only next step is a Solid (besides a Twin screw blower)
