Video at the bottom has all the info as well if you don't want to read!

Got the car tuned on Thursday on the E85 and had some great results. Same timing, same 11.9-12.0 A/F ratio and it picked up over the VP109 gas. Here is the graph

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/BBBjake/Dyno%20Sheets/109vsE85SAE.jpg

So she picked up about 15-20hp and 10-15tq through the whole curve. All we did was drain the tank and add the E85 and retune.

So fast forward to today. Was a bit chilly for racing but similar weather to what we get in October so this is a great comparison. I usually go easy the first pass or 2 to make sure the car feels stable and nothing is weird before going all out. Thank god i did bc the first pass I had an air bubble in the cooling system and about the 1/8 mile I saw the temp gauge go to 215+.

Let it cool for an hour and topped off the coolant. Said F*%$ IT, im going for it. Car felt fine

So shocks full loose, 2 step mid range and ready to rock. Car left great but didn't "feel" much stronger then the norm but man once I hit the 60' it came on HARD. For Comparison....

Previous best at home track (similar weather)
October 2010 after heavily messing with the launch (rpm, suspension etc)

1.341 (almost a 1.33!!!)
6.295 @ 108.19
9.940 @ 133.79

Previous best a couple weeks (Nov 2010) later down in Maryland ("Fast track")
(similar weather)

1.35
6.27@108.75
8.23
9.90@134.4x

AND TODAYS NEW BEST....FIRST AND ONLY FULL PASS OF 2011!

1.356
6.218 @ 109.74
9.823 @ 135.12

NO OTHER CHANGES TO THE CAR EXCEPT NEW FUEL SYSTEM AND THE USE OF E85!!!

Now to tweak it and go the 9.7x i know it will!

Welcome to the corn club Jake. E85 Rocks compared to expensive race gas.
Just be sure to test the consistency. I have seen 80 to 87% ethanol variance so far.
It change the stoich in the tune according to the ethanol %. I am tuned for 11.6 A/F on the gas scale.

yea I really have ot up here in the northeast bc I got E77-78 in the tank now. My next batch will probably be a little higher and Ill probably see E85 come June/July

Would be really cool to see gains over 91 pump!

we tried using the 9.7 but it wouldn't work. we used 10.7 and it instantly worked.

Would have probably been around 9.95 with 78-79%. You would have had to adjust the MAF Transfer to work with the correct stoich.

I move the stoich .05 for ever % of E-85 Change. 80% I use 9.85 86% 9.55

.05 for every 1%? using 9.76 for stoich?

so if it was 78% you would add 7% or .30 and go with 10.01?

Less ethanol = higher stoich.

If you had 85% and used 9.76. 78% would be 10.16 which is 4% more fuel 10.16/9.76 = 1.04

I got the A/F perfect at 11.6.
I just change the stoich accordingly based on Ethanol content and the A/F stays at 11.6

I usually datalog the first run when the content has changed to make sure the A/F looks good. It has always been safe.

Tuning chart I found. There are a few numbers floating around for 85% stoich.
This chart will give you a good idea on how to scale stoich for variances.

nice chart....Ill use that when i go back up and try it on the bottle.

as far as a/f, i thought you could go a bit leaner on the gas scale bc optimal a/f for E85 was more like 12.1

The research I did indicates that richer seems to generate more power due to the additional cooling effect. Most of the tuners I talked to shoot for the mid 11's on the A/F.

That would be a good dyno project. See if it puts down more power richer.

What plugs are you running. I have the BR7's at .031 with no blowout issues.

haven't changed them since 2006. TR6's....use them on the blower and on the bottle. Was going to look into it though as im not sure how the bottle is going to effect the car on E85

did you do anything with the injectors form gas to e85?

also I found this on YB. I might go back to the dyne and try going richer

What is your injector duty cycle?

What is your injector duty cycle?

Im not sure if Im reading it right on the logs....I think its labeled ISC Duty? the highest I see is .910.

my base fuel pressure is 30 @ idle...not sure what you mean by delta pressure.

BurnTire

inj duty cycle

You may need to update to a newer version of live link.

Delta pressure is what the tune commands. Stock is 39. If you up it to 50 at wot they will flow more. If you have not changed that with 80lb injectors you may be close to the limit. I will have to lookup the scalar in the tune. SCT has a value file for 50 psi.

well I know someone running 80s @ 42 base on a 3.4 whipple, e85 making 725+ so I don't think they are close at 520.

I think I have the latest version??

I set the Regulator to 40psi at zero vac / boost. then with the vac line on its at 30psi.

It is more about a cooler burn. Others say the car doesn't seem to be affected by ambient temps as much with E-85.
Did notice home much quieter the valve train is?
