Well, since my car is nearly paid down enough for me to sell it (have an interested buyer already) and taxes will be coming back soon ive been pondering if I should pick up a Terminator that Ive wanted since they have come out or the new 2011 Mustang Gt. I will more than likely be looking at a slightly use one as by the time I have some money saved up and what not there will be a few used ones around since the new year is here.

I test drove one on Firday and all I have to say is WOW! The interior is SO much better, so many more comforts, the power is pretty amazing as well as the new 6 speed tranny. They will be pretty mod friendly with a 4v 5.0 in there :bounce: I would just like some peoples opinions as I am leaning towards getting the 2011 car. Thank you.

Well thats up to you. If you are looking for a more refined ride go with the new 5.0.
If you want to build a serious monster go with the terminator.

if it was me I would go for the 5.0, but if you decide to go with a terminator let me know maybe we can work out a deal on mine..

Personally, I'd go with the 2011.
They are very refined when compared with the Cobra and are just a Whipple away from having more power.
Stock 2011 GTs are putting down 380+stock on 91..........VERY NICE!

The 2011 5.0 has my vote also just a whipple away from being insane

you have to keep in mind the price difference. you can find a decent terminator for 18k, if you can get 60 months (which will be hard on a 7-8 year old car) at 8% your payment would be about 400

now lets take a look at a 5.0 the cheapest one on cars.com is in oklahoma for 26,995 even at 72 months and 5.9% (decent credit) you will be looking at $500/ month

looks like your comparing apples to oranges

If you dont mind having a $500+ payment for the next 6 years and are in a financial position to spend 30k on a car do it! if not you might want to look into a cobra.

just my 2 cents

These were the responses I was expecting :Bucktooth: I am just really hooked on these new 5.0's and I plan on waiting a few more months for them to maybe go down in price a little bit more and at the same time save up some money towards a down payment because I want a cheap monthly payment if possible.

Ive seen videos and read articles in 5.0 magazine about Lethal Performances Whippled 5.0 and that thing is nuts!! My question is though, how much boost can these motors handle? From what I know they are forged rods and forged cranks but hypereutectic pistons, along with 11:1 compression ratio which I know is high for boosted applications.

A future investment would definitely be a whipple/tvs/kenne supercharger :hyper:

Or get a GT500 and it comes with a supercharger! :)

Also check out the article on the manual trans, in the latest MMFF magazine. Ford switched and went to Getrag in stead of Tremec on the 2011's(NOT the GT500 tho) and the guys buildin HP are starting to have problems. Read the article to get all the details.

I'm not so sure that the rods are like the aftermarket forged on the GTs, but I do know that the BOSS has a fully forged assy.
As far as how much boost? You have two choices from Ford Racing
Produces 525 SAE hp @ 6400 rpm and 470 SAE lb.-ft. @ 4200 rpm, at approximately 7 psi of boost with 93 octane fuel
Produces 624 SAE hp @ 6900 rpm and 536 SAE lb.-ft. @ 4700 rpm, at approximately 9 psi of boost with 93 octane fuel

Forged rods are only in the 03/04 Cobra and the new Boss motors. They didn't want to for over the money again. I think the 01 Cobra rods were $7 and the Manley Rods were $50+ each during production

Future investment you say? Is this car going to be with you for a long time or just until you want something else? Keep a long time= Cobra, investment/fun toy for a few years= '11 5.0. BTW I rated an 11 GT on my Cobra Insurance and it went down over $250 for 6 months. Same with a C6Z. Crazy how cheap newer cars are for me.

Another thing to think about, you wont find many banks/credit unions willing to loan 75% or more on an 03/04 Mustang.

Yeah It would be nice to get a GT and put a Boss rotating assembly in it, so I could have everything fully forged and rev the motor to 7500+ rpms =D plus I would rather not pay used 07+ GT500 prices for a Boss 302.

Regardless, the numbers these motors are making that the whipple at even 9 lbs of boost are spectacular! over 600+ hp with supporting mods. And I think insurance wont be as bad as I thought because I remember comparing lightnings/terminators/ and c5 Z06's and the vettes were the cheapest!

Burn Tire's right on the money. I've had both and and would rather have the 2011 for what I use the car for.

The other thing to consider though is that there are some really nice Terminators showing up on the open market every now and then for half of what you are going to pay for the 2011. A Whippled 03 with a solid for mid-high teens is a steal if you ask me.

the 2011 makes 391hp at the rear wheels stock and a terminator makes 371 this is based on a friend of mines dyno results, and his 2011 ran 12.75 bone stock with drag radials

12.80 is the stock terminator time so its very close also tags for the newer car are higher and superchargers and install is a lot more expensive on a 2011 gt vs 03 cobra i think its more about wich car you like more from the form i went for the newer one because i like the form and color a lot better and i got enough power with the blower on the new car on the other hand i miss the cobra a litle

Not quite on the 2011, usually 376-381 RWHP. ;)

I though I recall stock terminators putting down over 400 back in the day.

Here's my stock 2011 numbers:

http://www.highperformancestangs.com/forums/showthread.php/12934-Baseline-pulls

My 03 Cobra dynoed low 370's stock, 410 with a CAI and catback, and 450 with a 2.93 pulley and tune. Stock doesn't really matter anymore anyway since a stock Terminator is about as rare as a stock Fox 5.0.

I agree with wharf- there are some super cheap termis out there. Otherwise you should wait until more used 11's hit the market. Let someone else take the new car depreciation hit!

The only concern I have is the ability to get financed for a 04 cobra (I think most to all credit unions wont finance cars older than 7 years which means im down to the 04's for my only choice) and trust me if I could find a twin screw or ported car under 20k and I could gt financed I would jump all over it but im not sure how oftem those come about.

I think I might have better luck with the '11 and it would be a fun project since ive never had a "brand new" car, and yeah I will be waiting a bit probably for some more used ones to come out, I think by maybe april/may I will be ready to buy one. Hopefully there will be more used ones out

Only prob with getting one of the 11' used ones , is everyone has beat on it. be pretty rare to get one that hasn't been hammered, for why would they get rid of it ?. Especially the first ones that came to a dealership that all the employee's HAD to 'TEST" ! If you could , i'd get a "fresh" one. (I really want one of the new Boss models, but I'm sure the "special" dealership pricing will put it out of my reach! )

Yea and finding an 03 that hasn't been beaten on is equally as hard. Be patient and find a good used 11. They'll be out there.

As for the special dealership pricing- if you are smart and work with the right dealer those ADMs go away......I know this from experience!
