For those who dont already know, Dana won the A/Gas final at the recent West Coast Hot Rod event at Speedworld but met with an unfortunate finish line accident. During the race we had an injector failure which damaged a piston and pressurized the crank case just before the finish line which resulted in a sudden loss of oil. Oil was forced out of the head gaskets and cam covers with a sudden burst of pressure and the car immediately lost control when the oil hit the rear tires at over 160 MPH. Dana deployed her chutes and fought to keep the car from going into the other lane where the other car was coming fast. Unfortunately the car made a hard left turn and was heading directly for the first track turn off with a lot of speed, in an attempt to keep the car on the track and not in a rolled up mess in the turn off road she ended up in the water barrels and finally came to a stop on top of the metal guard rail on the left side of the track. Dana was able to get out of the car by herself and wasn't hurt. The car has suffered front end damage and is fortunately not in that bad of shape all of things considered. The important thing is that Dana was not injured and is actually looking forward to getting back behind the wheel, which we need to replace the steering wheel too seeing how she bent the top of the steering wheel forward upon impact with the water barrels. And surprisingly there is no frame damage and only minimal body damage. There was a small engine fire from the oil hitting the headers but only resulted in damaging the front tire on the right side. We do need to replace the front bumper cover so if anyone has a stock one they would like to sell let me know. We are trying to get the car back together for an upcoming race PSCA race at Firebird in October. Dana and I would like to give a big thank you to Speedworld and West Coast Hot Rod Association for their quick response to the accident and to all of the other racers and their families for the show of support afterwards.
