Can someone tell me if this is true or not.
I was talking to the window tint guy who sells other parts and installs them, He told me about a air intake I think it was called for my car. He said that it would make it run faster and that it would be better on gas. Is this true? Do any one you have something like this on your cars? I can always use to save money for sure.

well, they do help with gas, once you get over the sweet sound your car will make with it, and let up on the gas a little. hehehe. i personally love the whoosh that my jlt cold air makes. plus it was color matched. and if i am not mistaken jlt sponsors the site. so nothing like supporting the club sponsors. :2thumbs:

Just remember that with the new Mustangs, a computer reprogram is needed when eliminating the stock air box and going with an aftermarker cold air intake.

Just for future reference, is that something easily done or will I have to take it to a specialist to have it done? Or would the guys putting it on know what they are doing to reprogram the computer?

99% of the time people will just buy a handheld tuner, such as a SCT Xcal or Diablosport Predator. This will allow you to do it yourself.

yea, i did not think of that, but there is a good point. i personally took mine in and had it tuned, but then again, i had a 2.8 pulley that they had to tune for. :icon_biggrin:

Your's is different than the 05 and up Mustangs. Just adding a Cold Air Kit requires a reprogram of the PCM on the 05 and up.

Just a CAI will make the car run really lean from what I recall.
NA cars with a personal tune will wake it up...SOTP feel for sure.

I don't know that it would do anything to save fuel. If that's all you want, just use a drop-in K&N, use Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil and air your tires up to the max.
Sux about the re-tune on the new cars... never heard of that before.

There was an article in either 5.0 or MM&FF back when they first came out. Has something to do with the mass air being inside of the stock air box if I remember correctly.

If you want to save money BBk's intake for the 05-07 cars is the only one on the market that dosent need a tunner.
CAI (cold air intakes) do help a little in the 99-04 models. Not really noticable. I hear in the '05+ cars it helps more.
DO NOT fall for the things that claim to turn the air creating a vortex in the intake tube thus flowing more air. They are a joke. They are called Turbonators and Tornados. Waste of money. All they do is impede air flow into your engine.

For a nice little mod to start out with, that shows results in both Hp and Mpg and actually will help prolong the life of your accessories (Alt / Water Pump), why not just pop on a 3 pc. underdrive pulley set?
I had them on my '98 Gt and '01 Cobra for many, many miles and loved them.

What he also told me was that by doing this my 6c would be fast like a 8c, He said that some of the 4c rice burners out there have done it and they act like 6c's. What is this set your talking about, remember I have not really had a beefy car and am still learning all about this. But so want to learn. Do they have classes for this sort of thing, If not they should for sure hehe. Tanks

I agree with Viper, this guy is laying a heavy sales pitch on you. There will be gains, but not enough to even feel in the seat of your pants after the install.
In regards to learning, it's just a lot of reading. Hit the technical sections and ask questions. Most are more than happy to share thier experiences and knowledge. That's the great thing about internet forums like this.
Not too many years ago, it would take someone alot of time, money and experimentation on thier own to find the correct combination of parts to make something work. Now, you just need to find a credible source (those that have actually done it) and read up. It's also easier to seperate the quality shops who are honest and trustworthy vs. those who are just trying to make a buck off you.

The jury is still out on doing the RV / trailer thing or just running out in the cars.

I am running the stock IRS until I break something.
Then I will do a solid.

The solid with give you something in the way of weight savings for a strict Drag car, but I've got several pals who run solidly into the tens (in bad Cali air) with the stock IRS.
Several well documented mid to high 11 sec cars have well over 500 passes on sticky tires as well, so I don't think it will be a huge issue with a diff brace and decent launch technique.
Hell, I had well over 100 passes on sticky tires with my '01, which would have been considered impossible if you listened to all the internet hype.

I've been round and round with the IRS vs Solid swap deal. Still not sure.
Just check and make sure they welded up your torq. boxes with that solid. If you plan on running super sticky tires with a good clutch, those things rip the sheet metal like paper.

Had to do the boxes on my old LX.
I will see how long the IRS holds.
I like the idea of being able to lauch on slicks at 6000 RPMs on a solid.
I would never even think of doing that on the stock IRS.

I had to take the rpm's to 6500 with the car completely stock...it just bogged :Bucktooth:
never dumped, but 6000rpms launches worked for alot of IRS in SoCal. Just some squirls dumped it and BAM!
to go back on track, GEARS for would do better then a CAI.

I am going to have a hard hit with the Ram HD and billet steel flywheel.
But if nothing breaks it will have 1 hell of a 60 ft time.:3gears:

6800 launches when the track was stuck with the '01. But it was "only" putting down 309 at the rear wheels.
We'll see if the track can hold 6k with the '03 tommorow!

Depends on tires too. All the breakage seems to come off the radial DR's due to the shock. I don't think many have damaged stuff with the softer wrap up of the bias ply ET Streets.

Oh really? I'd heard that about Juan2, but I thought Carlos had more (experience) and sense.
To be honest, I'm a little nervous about running Gussin (Shelby Owner) since he posted that crazy video from last night where he got all sideways and almost took out the tree. With all the carnage there lately, I'm a bit rattled. Funny, I never even used to worry about it back in the good old days with the Mach and '01 Cobra wars we were having.
Perhaps I'll stick to running with you and watching your tailights disappearing.

I don't know what all these other guys are saying about the air intake not helping that much. It helps a lot, if you retune the computer. If you can afford it I would strongly suggest the C&L intake with SCT X-cal2 tuner. ESPECIALLY for an auto like yours. I have a 06 GT and after installing the intake and reprogramming I dropped .8 seconds in the 1/4 and get about 2-3 MPG better. Kinda pricey at around 500-600 bucks, but it is the most bang for the buck mod you can do to a stock automatic.
Shes only got the 6er but every little bit helps.
